Lauren Kennedy has been a photographer for about 10 years. She photographs mostly portraits and wildlife photography, but about a month ago, someone asked her where could they get an urn for their pet s ashes. I thought, You know why not offer this service? I m already in photography, she said. Kennedy now offers photoshoots for dogs who are nearing the ends of their lives, whether due to disease or old age. It gives their owners a lasting memory of their beloved pets.

Successful night for STRIVE Rocks 2021 fundraiser

The annual "STRIVE Rocks" all-night fundraiser kicked off Friday night, March 7, at 8 pm. The event, held over Zoom this year, ended twelve hours later at 8 am, Saturday, March 8th. Participants danced throughout the night with special themes each hour, and they played games, received prizes, and got to hear from bands, DJs, and Maine celebrities. All the proceeds from the event went to PSL Services also known as STRIVE. The South Portland-based.

Building Business: Freeport church s addition of arts center moves forward

Keeley Crane Service, a South Portland-based heavy equipment provider, hoisted a new HVAC system to the roof of Meetinghouse Arts and the First Parish Church, where the arts center is a tenant. The Arts and Cultural Alliance of Freeport is making changes at the sanctuary level of the church, which is at 40 Main St., to create space for performances, a gallery, classes and meetings. Plans call for preserving the historic character of the interior, while allowing the church to continue to hold services. Warren Construction of Freeport is the contractor.  Elsewhere in Freeport, Shaw Bros. Construction is handling earthwork at the Residences at Crosstree, an apartment complex underway on Desert Road.

South Portland engineering firm acquires smaller Falmouth peer

South Portland-based engineering firm Sebago Technics Inc. on Friday announced the acquisition of Falmouth-based Titcomb Associates. That will add 11 employees in Falmouth and Bath to Sebago’s workforce, bringing its total to more than 90.  Terms of the deal were not disclosed. It comes less than three months after Sebago Technics acquired Sawyer Engineering and Surveying, a small firm based in Bridgton, to gain a foothold in the fast-growing Lakes Region. Titcomb, whose roots go back to 1969, provides topographic and other surveying services to private and public-sector clients throughout Maine and northern New England.  David Titcomb, who has owned and operated the firm since 1985, will continue with the business after the acquisition, serving clients for the next few years.
