Bayshore Byway gains national designation

The Delaware Bayshore Byway is now officially a National Scenic Byway. As part of Earth Day celebrations across the state, Gov. John Carney and state officials gathered April 22 on the marsh boardwalk trail at St. Jones Reserve to make the announcement and unveil the first America s Bywaya sign. The reserve, located south of Dover off Kitts Hummock Road, contains a visitors center and 2-mile nature trail. It s also a key center for research and monitoring of the Delaware Bay marsh system. Carney was joined by Delaware Department of Transportation Secretary Nicole Majeski, Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Secretary Shawn Garvin, Delaware Tourism Office Director Liz Kellerand, and representatives from Delaware Greenways and tourism groups.

Delaware Bayshore Byway designated as National Scenic Byway

As part of recent Earth Day celebrations, the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT), the Delaware Tourism Office, Delaware Greenways and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control (DNREC) announced that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has designated the Delaware Bayshore Byway as a National Scenic Byway. Gov. John Carney, DelDOT Secretary Nicole Majeski, DNREC Secretary Shawn M. Garvin, Director of the Delaware Tourism Office Liz Keller and representatives from Delaware Greenways and tourism groups celebrated the designation with a gathering on April 22 to unveil a special sign recognizing the byway as a National Scenic Byway at the Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve’s St. Jones Reserve in Dover.

Five boaters stuck off coast of Slaughter Beach pulled to safety

47abc December 16, 2020 SLAUGHTER BEACH, Del. Fire officials pulled five people to safety, after their boat got stuck off the coast of Slaughter Beach Wednesday afternoon. Fire Chief Terry Jester from the Memorial Volunteer Fire Department tells 47ABC that just after 5:45 pm, the boat started experiencing motor problems after getting stuck in the marsh, as a result of rain and wind conditions. We’re told with the help of the Milton and South Bowers fire departments,  fire officials were able to pull the boaters to safety. Officials say no injuries were reported in the incident.
