SD79 Mobilized Response Team After Student s Death Monday Morning

SHARE ON: Photograph by Priscilla du Preez The Cowichan Valley School District has mobilized its Critical Incident Response Team following the death of a 17-year old student from North Cowichan early Monday morning. The CIRT provides support to students, staff, or affected family members after traumatic incidents, whether they happen during school hours, or after hours. District Superintendent Robin Gray says, “early this week we were made aware of the tragic death of one of our students. Our hearts and thoughts go out to his family, friends, and community.” The Cowichan Valley School District is reaching out to any student who may need support.

Victim of Fatal Stabbing 17-years-old SHARE ON: RCMP cruiser (supplied by the RCMP) The RCMP says the victim of Monday’s early morning fatal stabbing was a 17-year old resident of North Cowichan. Corporal Chris Manseau says investigators believe that it was an isolated incident involving two individuals who knew each other. No charges have been laid at this time and the suspect in the homicide, who was arrested at the scene, has now been released from custody. Investigators continue to interview witnesses and ask anyone with information that may help them to come forward. North Cowichan Duncan RCMP Detachment Commander Inspector Chris Bear says for the community, “the thought of a 17-year-old being stabbed to death is incomprehensible.”
