Year-Round Funding Help for Local Outdoor Recreation Trails in Montana need care in all seasons - and the Montana State Parks division of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks has just announced funding in their Recreational Trails Program. Over $1.5 million will be used by organizations in a wide variety of plans. They include local efforts. The huge Selway Bitterroot Wilderness, just west of the Bitterroot Valley, has quite a few trails, and the Selway Bitterroot Frank Church Foundation will use $11,000 to work on about 36 miles of wilderness trails in seven different volunteer maintenance projects this summer. They received similar funding last year. ....
Pass level of 5,500 feet around southwest Montana could see up to 4 fresh inches of snow by late Friday night. Gallatin County, along with several others around southwest Montana, are under a short-lived Winter Weather Advisory until 11pm Friday evening. The main concern is heavy, wet snow on our mountain passes creating poor visibility situations. Please use extra caution if you must travel. This amount of mountain snow was not expected and the advisory was issued much later in the day than normal. Heavy, wet snow was falling in Bozeman city limits shortly after 6pm and was starting to accumulate on roadways. Not more than an inch is expected to fall in town. ....
