Incoming President Joe Biden is raising tens of millions of dollars toward this celebration, including from corporate giants with big business before the federal government. But so far his inauguration committee won t disclose how it s spending that money, and progressives are demanding transparency. They hope the committee will change course, especially since Biden has promised a robust political money reform agenda heavy on enhanced transparency. We think the Biden inauguration committee should voluntarily disclose their spending and that Congress should propose legislation that would require full disclosure of inaugural committee spending, said Jana Morgan, director of Declaration for American Democracy.

Cities angry with Trump over millions in unpaid rally expenses

WASHINGTON This time next week, U.S. President Donald Trump will be an ex-president facing an impeachment trial in the Senate that could doom his political future, and a series of looming lawsuits over business dealings and allegations of sexual assault. But Trump’s staggering level of debt may be the most lasting repercussion of his presidency as he’s racked up millions in unpaid bills from rallies, security costs, bank loans and other unknown sources. Paying back that money could be increasingly difficult for Trump as more companies cut ties with him and the Trump Organization in the wake of the Capitol riot.

Trump s presidential library shaping up to be legacy battleground

Joe Raedle/Getty Images Trump presidential-library talk is heating up among historians and Washington insiders. The ex-president and his supporters might use the opportunity to build a shrine to Trump that attacks his critics.  Expect a Trump library or museum to be a major battleground over defining his legacy.  Historians and presidential-library buffs say they re worried that any sort of presidential library or museum built by Donald Trump s allies will be used entirely to glorify the ex-commander in chief while promoting lies about his administration and attacking his critics. Construction of a Trump library could wind up being a major battleground over the legacy of the twice-impeached president. Historians and Washington insiders are speculating about whether Trump s kids or trusted aides might lead the effort, where a library would be located, and whether the federal government might withhold its support.

Trump s Secret Service detail could be forced to testify against him in future legal proceedings. He s facing possible criminal charges and civil peril now that he s lost his presidential immunity.  Former agents are worried Trump s security detail could be drawn into legal proceedings.  Donald Trump is entitled to lifetime protection by a Secret Service detail, but those same agents could also be hauled into court to testify against him under oath.  It s a prospect that might have seemed outlandish, even until recently, but appears increasingly real as Trump is expected to face a raft of criminal and civil challenges in federal and state courts now that he s lost his presidential immunity.
