A $2-million winning lottery ticket was purchased in Godfrey in December. The Illinois Lottery ticket was purchased at the BP location on Delmar Avenue, commonly known as Eppel s Pantry, on December 14th.
The winning ticket was sold to a group of 18 front-line nurses who had pooled their money to purchase the tickets.

In a special meeting of the Godfrey Village Board, an agreement has been reached with the Godfrey Fire Protection District to swap land owned by each entity. The GFPD wants to build a new firehouse where the Highway House Motel once stood, giving it one centralized location.
In exchange, the village would get the existing fire station on Delmar Avenue and money raised by the sale of the firehouse on Godfrey Road. This is just the first step in the process, as a bond issue from the Fire Protection District to fund the new construction is expected to go to voters in the spring.

It happened near the intersection of Shaw Avenue and Del Mar Avenue just after 1 am.
Investigators say 31-year-old William Mullin Junior car lost control of his car and hit a curb, causing the vehicle to go airborne. It slammed into a brick wall and a tree before coming to a stop. We definitely know this vehicle was going speeds that they were not able to control before hitting multiple items, including the building, said Sgt. John Tyler.
Officials say Junior died at the scene. His 35-year-old passenger suffered major injuries in the collision and was taken to a nearby hospital.
