In making his case for more people ( What the world needs now, is people more people, Opinion Exchange, April 3), Tyler Cowen obliquely refers to environmental problems that may be tied to overpopulation but goes on to lament the economic ramifications of a declining population and ultimately states his opinion that the greater tragedy would be a failure to take full advantage of the planet s capacity to sustain human life. As members of the only species capable of contemplating our impact on the planet, it s disturbing, to me at least, that Cowen would engage in such an exercise and come to his conclusion, knowing full well that cramming humans into every nook and cranny comes at the expense of thousands of other species with which we share the earth. World Junior Hero: Marek Schwarz

In a recent article looking back at Vancouver Giants World Junior tournaments, one player stood out above the rest. Marek Schwarz of the Czech Republic had one of the greatest goaltending performances in 2005, leading his team to a bronze medal with a win over the host USA. Looking back, Marek ranks the tournament as his favorite hockey moment. Marek is now playing in the Czech Republic but was able to find time to look back and talk about that incredible tournament.
2003-2004:
Before coming over to the Vancouver Giants, Marek was already thriving on the world stage. During the season, he played in the World U-18’s as well as the World Juniors. In seven games at the U18 World Championship, Marek registered a .940 save percentage and 1.29 goals-against average. Ranking every Vancouver Giants performance at the World Juniors

With the upcoming World Juniors scheduled to start in the next few weeks, it is time to look back at the Vancouver Giants’ performances at the tournament.
Bowen Byram will represent the Giants at this year’s tournament. Byram should be a key defenceman for Canada this tournament as they look for back to back gold medals. The Giants have had players represent them a total of 15 times up until this year’s tournament. This article will rank their performances to determine which Giants player had the best World Junior tournament. To qualify for the list, a player must have been on the Giants roster during the tournament and have played with them before the tournament. This means that if a player was traded to the Giants after the tournament or from the team before the tournament, they do not qualify for the list.
