Tahoe Douglas Fire adds 6 to staff following academy

ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District recently added six new recruits after they completed Capital City Regional Fire Academy this last month.
“Like many others in 2020, attending classes and advancing one’s career was a challenge for these recruits, but they made a commitment to each other and to TDFPD that they would bond together, persevere and complete the program,” said TDFPD Fire Chief Scott Lindgren. “Individually they broke academy performance records and as a unit they consistently were at the top of the class. I couldn’t be more proud to welcome them into the TDFPD family.” ....

Clara Luper received her bachelor s degree from Langston University in 1944 and her master s degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1951, becoming the first Black graduate student in the OU History program. Luper went on to become the adviser for the Oklahoma City NAACP Youth Council. The Youth Council staged a sit-in at Oklahoma City s Katz drugstore in 1958, launching a national sit-in movement to demonstrate against segregation. She continued her non-violent activism, participating in marches, demonstrations and was jailed numerous times for her Civil Rights work.

Mary Fallin became Oklahoma s first female governor when she took office on January 10, 2011. Fallin also made history as the first woman to be elected lieutenant governor of Oklahoma, a position she served in from 1995-2007. Oklahoma urban design showpiece sale to boost fund for fighting racism

SPENCER Lenardo Smith wants to fight systemic racism in the Oklahoma criminal justice system. It s a passion the real estate investor got from his mom.
Smith put together the Ruby Mae Bloomer Smith Legacy Fund, in the name of his late mother, in order to help fund progress in this area, and dropped in $20,000 of his own to get started.
Now, after working his crazy home renovation magic again, he s donating a portion of the sales of his latest project to the fund. 
He s turned another little everyday house that had seen better days into a showpiece of urban chic, to raise money to help everyday people have a chance at better days. ....
