Veneremur Cernui – Down in Adoration Falling, Bishop Thomas Olmsted of the Diocese of Phoenix recommends to the faithful daily Mass and more frequent Eucharistic adoration, and asks priests to lead an annual Eucharistic procession in their parishes. The bishop’s letter, promulgated on April 1, 2021, explains that the Church “requires Catholic leaders who have publicly supported gravely immoral laws such as abortion and euthanasia to refrain from receiving Holy Communion until they publicly repent and receive the Sacrament of Penance.”

In 1998, Pope John Paul II, a philosopher as well as a theologian, promulgated an encyclical entitled
Fides et Ratio (‘Faith and Reason’). It had appeal to me because our very wise Jesuit moral theology professor always drummed into us that any pronouncements on moral theology from Rome must appeal to reason as well as to tradition and authority. Otherwise, they will have no currency with the people of God.
The opening line of John Paul’s encyclical is memorable: ‘Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth.’

NEW YORK (CNS) On Easter last year, New York Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan looked out on an empty St. Patrick’s Cathedral amid the pandemic and thought, “Oh my God, I don’t mind an empty tomb on Easter but an empty church?”
“To see the folks back, even though we’re still limited to 50% capacity … sure means the world. Don’t tell anybody, I’m afraid we went a little over that today, but we were very careful,” he told the congregation April 4 in the cathedral that can hold about 2,000 worshippers.
