Jackson, an Allagash Democrat, said that sites which masquerade as news organizations as they assail opponents or prop up chosen candidates ought to include a disclaimer that lets people know who paid to put them online.

BANGOR A Maine county treasurer and school board member who was arrested last week has vowed that he will fight allegations that he stalked and harassed a local woman.
John Hiatt, 38, was arrested Friday afternoon, accused of harassing a woman using his cellphone and the computer tablet issued to him by the Bangor School Department, the Bangor Daily News reported.
The charges include one count each of aggravated invasion of computer privacy, a Class C crime: stalking, a Class D crime, theft by unauthorized taking, a Class E crime, and two counts of harassment, a Class D crime. Hiatt faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000 on the invasion of privacy charge.
