Leo Seigal was helping his friend, buzzy Los Angeles–based designer
Jake Arnold, with his Instagram account, and had a thought: Why not turn an overstuffed, unmanageable inbox into a revenue stream?
“I couldn’t believe how many people were DMing him! Every week he would get hundreds of messages from people asking, ‘What should I do with my curtains?’” Seigal tells
Business of Home. “My thought was, How do we create a model so that you can help all these people?”
And how to find them!
When I redecorated my apartment recently there was one thing I really wanted to achieve: sentimentality. I have always believed in storytelling when it comes to design. Layering your home with meaning and pieces that speak to your life and the energy you’ve cultivated in your home is so important. My home had that, but I craved more. One way to do this is by choosing pieces that already have a history their visible patina adds instant depth, warmth, and texture to your space.
That’s where vintage vessels come in. I have been obsessed with them for a while but I know I’m not alone and I’m certainly not the initiator of this trend. Nate Berkus, Jeremiah Brent, Athena Calderone, Fredrik Karlsson, Jake Arnold, and more recently Erick Garcia have inspired me and countless others to tell our story through design and build a home with meaning by mixing the old with the new.

It’s safe to say that over the course of many hours spent watching HGTV shows, we’ve all probably shared the same thought: “I wish could design my home!” As it turns out, they probably can! Before they’re given a program on the TV network and beamed into your house via the silver screen, many HGTV stars start out as regular small business owners, offering their design services to everyday clients. And even after they’ve found TV fame, many continue to work on private projects away from the cameras.
Curious how to book an HGTV design personality for your own project? Here are three options that vary in budget and scale, depending on your needs.

There are two major differences for Taylor’s boys basketball team this season. Two considerable dynamics that have the Mustangs brimming with district championship aspirations.
One is the addition of 6-foot-4 sophomore center Elijah Melchiorre, whose energy and passion have been welcomed. The other is the evolving leadership of star senior guard Jake Arnold, whose commitment to making those around him better has propelled the Mustangs another level.
Taylor is 8-2 overall, 2-0 in District 19-6A. In a wide-open district, the Mustangs are confident the 19-6A title can be theirs.
“Experience is the biggest thing,” said Arnold, averaging 26 points per game. “We pretty much returned all of the guys from last year, and we just have a lot more confidence. We have a great core that gets along and we all cheer each other on. These guys just fight really hard for each other.”
