Reach Digital Revenues Up By More Than A Third
Reach’s digital revenues have grown by 35 per cent in the first four months of the year, according to trading update released ahead of the publisher’s annual general meeting today.
The publisher announced a continued growth in registrations; now at 6.2 million, versus 5.8 million reported at the beginning of March, with the publisher “well on track” to reach 10 million by the end of 2022.
Total print revenue down 10.4 per cent and circulation down by 7.9 per cent, with group revenue for the period down 3.1 per cent, in a trading update for the four month period from 28 December 2020 to 25 April 2021.
Digital revenues at the publisher were up 35% year-on-year between 8 December and 25 April.
Mullen said: “We have had a positive start to the year and are seeing the benefits of last year’s transformation programme.
“With digital now accounting for more of our advertising revenues than print and growing strongly, we are well placed to make further progress during 2021.”
Asked for more information by Press Gazette, a Reach spokesperson said the shift to majority digital advertising revenue had happened in the past six months.
“Although 2020 was an unusual year, we have also compared with 2019 figures and we are now confident that this is a strong and lasting trend,” they said.

Labor Dept. officially withdraws rule to define independent contractor within FLSA
The Department of Labor is officially withdrawing a late-Trump-era rulemaking that would have clarified the definition of what it means to be an
independent contractor within the Fair Labor Standards Act. Because the rule never took effect, owner-operators will see no changes as a result of the rule s withdrawal.
DOL published the final rule on Jan. 7, shortly before the end of Trump’s presidency. Just days prior to the rule’s publication, the incoming Biden administration specifically mentioned the independent contractor rule as one of Trump’s “midnight regulations” that would be halted.
