Blues Legend Carberry Dies

Larry Carberry, who played right-back in Sir Alf Ramsey’s Town sides which won the old Second Division and the First Division championship in successive seasons, died on Friday, aged 79.
Liverpool-born Carberry was signed by Ramsey in May 1956 after he had watched him playing amateur football for Bury Town while he was completing his National Service with the army at Gibraltar Barracks in the West Suffolk town.
He was a member of the team which won the Third Division South in 1956/57 and then went on to win the Second Division in 1960/61 and then the First Division title at the first attempt in 1961/62 when he was ever-present in the league.
Major Ken Mayhew, who was awarded the highest Dutch honour, has died aged 104.

A Suffolk D-Day veteran who was one of only four living people to receive the highest honour of the Netherlands, has sadly died aged 104.
Major Ken Mayhew died peacefully at home on Thursday, May 13, having played a pivotal role in the liberation of the Netherlands from Nazi occupation.
In 1946, Major Mayhew was knighted by Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands, the great-grandmother of the current monarch, King William-Alexander.
He was awarded the Knight fourth class of the Military William Order, the Dutch equivalent of the Victoria Cross and the Légion d Honneur. The Order s motto means bravery, leadership and loyalty.
