Parks and Recreation Manager Thomas Petrus, hired last July, said he was âsuper stokedâ to oversee county parks. Petrus said despite pandemic-related shutdowns in many other aspects of daily life, âwe actually never shut the parks down. Two of them have lakes, so there were always people fishing. With a view of miles of undeveloped shoreline and the water, the campsites at Jacobs Creek Campground are a relaxing way to spend your vacation. There are 27 available campsites, 23 of which are reservable, including warm showers in the campground. Campground hosts are available on site to answer your questions. There is a Day-Use area adjacent to the Campground with a designated beach area. There are a total of 29 campsites, 27 of which are available, within three loops. Some sites are right along the water, and some sites are away from the water. The campground has flush toilets and showers. Earth Day activities Friendly competition among volunteer teams of up to 10 co-workers, cleaning litter in Allegheny County from April 21 to June 22, sponsored by Allegheny CleanWays. Winning teams will receive prizes from some of the region s environmentally conscious businesses. Members of the Allegheny CleanWays & Friends of the Riverfront crew will introduce creative and enjoyable challenges weekly to promote responsible stewardship and strategies to do more good. Register for a morning and evening session of cleaning up litter along the Allegheny River on Thursday using the organization s boat, Rachel Carson. Both sessions will leave from Steel City Rowing dock at 101 Arch St., Verona. Sessions are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Boat will take volunteers to sites not easily accessible from land. ....
