As summer begins and more people head off for vacations, State Police are urging motorists to be safe on the roads. In just four days, from Tuesday, June 1, through Friday, June 4, Troopers statewide have investigated 10 fatal crashes that resulted in 13 deaths.
State Police say impairment, distracted driving, and speeding continue to be contributing factors in these crashes. Other factors include not wearing a seatbelt and not utilizing proper child restraints. This week, Troopers have seen multiple lives ended and families heartbroken due to poor decisions made behind the steering wheel of a vehicle, LSP said.

First look at new locations for wrong-way driver detecting technology
HOUSTON – Houston highways will soon get a little bit safer. KPRC 2 traffic expert Anavid Reyes got a first look at the new wrong-way driver detection system that will be going in at 16 new locations by the end of 2021.
There were almost 250 wrong-way driver crashes in Houston between 2015 and 2019, and according to The Texas Department of Transportation, the Lonestar state leads the nation in wrong-way driver crashes. The Texas Department of Transportation and Houston Transtar have been studying wrong-way crashes for years and have determined the locations that see the highest amount of these types of crashes:

CLEVELAND â Bike Cleveland hosted its tenth annual Ride of Silence on Cleveland Public Square and remembered local bicycle riders who lost their lives or were seriously injured in bike-related crashes.
Riders shared their stories and called for greater roadway safety measures and improvements in the judicial system.
Bike Cleveland Executive Director Jacob VanSickle told News 5 sadly fatal bike crashes are climbing in Ohio, with 55 riders killed in 2020, an 88% increase compared to 2019. VanSickle urged motorists and the City of Cleveland to take more steps to improve the safety of the Northeast Ohio riding environment.
