Federal government has no idea how many aged care workers have been vaccinated

The federal government is under fire after it conceded it had no idea how many aged care workers had received the COVID jab. The aged care sector was meant to be prioritised in the first phase of the rollout but three months down the track roughly 10 per cent or 33,000 people in the aged care workforce are fully vaccinated. The number is expected to be higher when those who have received the jab outside the workplace in places such as GPs or clinics, but it became clear the government does not have that data during a Senate Estimates hearing on Tuesday. The Victorian government is now seeking to speed up the process by fast-tracking the aged care workers in the state over a five-day vaccination blitz.

Liberal Senator calls for ombudsman and a proper review into ABC

Liberal Senator Alex Antic has called for both a comprehensive review into the ABC and the establishment of a standing ombudsman for the public broadcaster. The ABC has once again come under fire at Senate Estimates for perceived bias and contraventions of its charter in terms of impartiality. Senator Antic posed questions to ABC’s Managing Director David Anderson over potential biases including those featured in the national broadcaster’s coverage of the recent Hamas-Israel conflict.
