Scores of Barbadians took advantage of walk-in COVID-19 vaccination centres at St Paul’s Primary School and the Barbados Landship Dock in St Michael yesterday.
However, co-coordinator of the National COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign, public health specialist Dr Elizabeth Ferdinand, said this week they would be refocusing their efforts on reducing the backlog of appointments.
“Today is our trial at a pop-up clinic because we wanted to see what the response would be like. We’ve had about 150 people registered so far to have their vaccines.

Government is moving to enable the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory to conduct continuous genomic surveillance to detect the presence of other strains of the novel coronavirus on the island, Senior Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health Dr Anton Best has disclosed.
The effort was immediately backed by Prime Minister Mia Mottley during the latest COVID-19 update at Ilaro Court.
Dr Best said that based on a meeting on Saturday with health officials, including representatives from the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners, to examine issues surrounding the lab, the recommendation was made to the wider Emergency Operations Centre on Sunday to do continuous genomic surveillance.
Prime Minister Mia Mottley returns to the panel for Monday’s COVID-19 address to the nation and media conference at noon. Also scheduled to speak are Minister of Health Jeffrey Bostic, infectious disease specialist Dr Corey Forde and senior medical officer Dr Anton Best.
