Roisman, Washington D.C., Jan. 29, 2021 Date 01/02/2021 Good morning.  I’m very pleased to be here today and to hear from all of you.  Almost a year in, it seems unnecessary to comment on the fact that the format of this event is not our typical format, or on the fact that the Commission, this Committee, and Martha and her team have been able to continue this important work in the face of unprecedented circumstances.  We at the SEC have slipped relatively easily into remote work, and while there have been a few hiccups along the way, many of us have grown accustomed to this new normal.

Remarks At Meeting Of SEC Small Business Capital Formation Advisory Committee, SEC Commissioner Hester M. Peirce, Jan. 29, 2021 Date 29/01/2021 Thank you Carla [Garrett] and members of the Committee for putting together an agenda that touches on a variety of important subjects. It is encouraging to see the Committee back to work in 2021. Now let us hope that we will be able to meet in person sometime later this year. Of course, that will depend on vaccination efforts against COVID-19, which continues to have a devastating impact on small businesses across America. The recently published Annual Report[1] from our Office of the Advocate for Small Business Capital Formation provides a sobering snapshot of the harmful effects of COVID-19 in the first three quarters of 2020: a 27% decrease in the number of small businesses, drastic reductions in revenue of up to 70% in certain industries over the same time period, and a reduction in headcount for nearly half of all small business

SEC: Small Business Capital Formation Advisory Committee Jan. 29 Meeting To Focus On Smaller Public Company Markets Date 22/01/2021 The Securities and Exchange Commission today released the agenda for the Friday, Jan. 29 meeting of its Small Business Capital Formation Advisory Committee, which will focus on the experiences of smaller public companies and the Commission’s recent Securities Act Rule 701 and Form S-8 proposals.  The Committee’s morning session will feature representatives from exchanges and platforms who will share some of the trends and dynamics they are observing regarding smaller public and later-stage private companies.  They will also explore the extent to which recent innovations are impacting smaller companies interested in accessing the public markets.

10:15 Overview of Annual Report from the SEC’s Office of the Advocate for Small Business Capital Formation Sebastian Gomez Abero and Jenny Riegel of the SEC’s Office of the Advocate for Small Business Capital Formation will provide an overview of the Office’s FY2020 Annual Report, with a focus on the state of small business capital formation. The report includes data from various segments of the market and provides perspective on the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic is having on small businesses, including small and emerging businesses, mature and later-stage businesses, and small public companies. The report also provides data on challenges faced by minority- and women-owned businesses, businesses in communities affected by natural disasters, and rural businesses.
