LONG SAULT Residents of South Stormont will have to wait a little while before they can celebrate Canada Day.
South Stormont council voted unanimously in favour last week of postponing celebrations to Sept. 4. That doesn’t mean events would still take place as the postponement will only go ahead if the township gets the green light from the Eastern Ontario Health Unit.

Riverview senior Beth Shoop swam the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5 minutes, 31.36 seconds during Fox Chapel’s Jan. 14 meet with Woodland Hills.
She was excited with that time, which was about a half-second faster than her medal-winning eighth-place finish (5:31.96) at last year’s WPIAL Class AA championships at Pitt’s Trees Pool.
This historic home at 23 Moulinette Road has been added to the municipality s heritage register, meaning it will receive some limited protection should someone want to tear it down. LONG SAULT – A historically significant home in Long Sault has been officially added to South Stormont’s heritage register as part of a development deal.
The home at 23 Moulinette Road was added to the Municipal Heritage Register at last month’s council meeting as councillors approved the entire register, which includes 18 other locations in the township like Quinn’s Inn and the former Cornwall Township Hall.
