The Chingford Hatch level crossing c1885. Credit Gary Stone Pictured above is a rural scene at Chingford Hatch level crossing from c1885. Seen from Larkshall Road, the gates remained until 1971 when a new underpass was built 200 yards up the road at the junction with New Road. The only surviving level crossing in E4 is at Higham’s Park.

The Prince of Wales when Chingford Hatch was a small village. Credit: Gary Stone Pictured at the top of this page is charming photo of The Prince of Wales from c1913 when Chingford Hatch was just a small village . Records date the pub back to at least 1862 when the publican was Thomas Mills. He remained for almost 30 years. The site is now occupied by apartments This pub was rebuilt in 1939 and despite a major refurbishment in 2000 it eventually closed in August 2008 to make way for apartments.
