There is absolutely nothing about the vague, bland premise of ABCâs new comedy, âHome Economics,â that would make you think the show would be funny. So, youâd be forgiven for skipping it, as I almost did. But if you donât watch, youâll miss a great show thatâs as heartwarming as it is hilarious, thanks to a standout cast and solid writing that takes a seemingly weak idea and turns it into something pretty special.
âEconomicsâ focuses on three adult siblings: Tom, Sarah and Connor. Tom (Topher Grace) is a best-selling author desperately trying to get his career back after his last book flopped. Thatâs the premise of ABCâs new sitcom, âHome Economics,â which premiered Wednesday and stars Topher Grace, whoâs returning to broadcast TV for the first time since âThat â70s Show.â
âThereâs nothing that comes between friends like money,â Grace, 42, told the Daily News. âWe put the onus on family and togetherness and the things that matter that money canât buy.â
The show revolves around three siblings: Tom (Grace), the middle sibling and a middle-class author; Sarah (Caitlin McGee), the oldest and a currently unemployed child therapist; and Connor (Jimmy Tatro), the youngest and richest sibling whose gig with a private equity firm pays enough for him to buy Matt Damonâs house.
