IAG reveals details of new Rila 8×8 by Samuel Cranny-Evans International Armored Group (IAG) has detailed its Rila 8×8 family of vehicles that was launched at this year’s International Defence Exhibition (IDEX). The vehicle presented at IDEX 2021, which was held in Abu Dhabi in February, was configured as an infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), although it represents the first of a series of vehicles that will be released over the coming year, an IAG representative told Janes. The design has been in development for some time and the prototype vehicle has completed a series of company tests and trials, including 1,000 km of off-road travel in desert conditions. ....

Modernisation of PLAGF s Xinjiang Military Command continues apace 17 May 2021 by Samuel Cranny-Evans & Gabriel Dominguez The modernisation and mechanisation of the People s Liberation Army Ground Force s (PLAGF s) Xinjiang Military Command continues at a fast pace, with Chinese media revealing on 16 May that Xinjiang recently received elements of a medium combined arms battalion, including dozens of ZLB-09 (also known as Type 09)-series 8×8 platforms. PLAGF s Xinjiang Military Command operating ZBL-09 IFV by Gabriel Dominguez & Samuel Cranny-Evans Chinese state-owned media revealed on 12 May that the People’s Liberation Army Ground Force’s (PLAGF’s) Xinjiang Military Command has begun operating the China North Industries Group Corporation (Norinco) ZBL-09 (also known as Type 09) infantry fighting vehicle (IFV). The platform is the latest in a series of modern military assets delivered to the command in recent months: an indication of the fast pace at which it is being modernised.
