Funding available to purchase Community Speed Cameras

Dyfed-Powys Police have seen an increase in community concerns of speeding across the Force area. The funding will also enable Go Safe to encourage increased volunteer engagement in communities as they look to develop more CSW teams. Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn said: “We are hearing more concerns of speeding in our communities these days, and as a result we are encouraging more volunteers and partners to work with the Police to improve road safety. “The Welsh Government are proposing to introduce 20mph speed limits into every residential areas in Wales by 2023, which will inevitably cause an increase in demand for the Police and Go Safe.

New camera equipment and enforcement officer for police s community speed watch scheme

The police s community speed watch scheme will now have more powers to tackle speeding drivers in Wiltshire following the appointment of an enforcement officer. The new role is part of significant investment made by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and Wiltshire Police. The appointment comes fresh off the back of a six-week period of proactive enforcement of road safety during which officers gave out 168 traffic enforcement reports and gave advice to 250 motorists. This crackdown formed part of the force s response to the community speed watch programme being stopped because of the current Covid restrictions. The scheme is set to return on March 29 with more than 1,000 volunteers across the county, who, on average, process 40,000 reports per year and will now be supported by the new traffic enforcement officer, as well as new camera equipment.

Letters: Call Paolo Di Canio, equality in Islam and take action on speeders Speed cameras have been turned off in Wiltshire since 2010 but police are still catching hundreds of drivers going over the speed limit Take action on speeders Vehicles speeding on our roads endangers lives and safety. This dangerous behaviour has increased in lockdown. Some of the speeds in 30mph zones are shocking and dangerous. Community Speed Watch volunteers do a great job in trying to protect their areas and are too often abused for their efforts. In the last few days I met 20 frustrated parishes and CSW teams in North Wiltshire. Their tales were the serial speeders and no action being taken were horrifying.
