The Alpena Municipal Council approved a contract with Donald Gilmet of Gilmet Construction Services. It also approved a budget amendment request to increase the capital vehicles account for the installation of specialized equipment for a police patrol vehicle in the amount of $11,751.
It also approved a pair of events for this year. Art on the Bay is to be held July 14-18 and the 150th Anniversary Celebration Block Party to be held at St.
Paul Lutheran Church on June 20.
Council went into closed session, but no action was taken when the open session resumed.

The Alpena Township Board of Trustees received an economic development report from Mike Mahler, economic development director for Target Alpena. He informed the board on current and upcoming projects in the community.

Crews responded to reports of a single-story house fire near Baseline Road and Loop-101. There they found a heavy amount of fire, says the department s Assistant Chief of Community Risk Reduction, Andrea Glass.

HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 10-year veteran of the Holland Department of Public Safety has been named the DPS’ Firefighter of the Year.
Lieutenant Anthony Venhuizen was honored in a brief ceremony on February 12
th for earning the honor that “recognizes his consistent positive attitude and commitment to the department’s core values of compassion, respect, integrity, professionalism and dedication,” according to a department statement. “These qualities were clearly demonstrated when he and another department member played an active role in developing and providing training for department members prior to the appointment of a department training officer.
