Algoma Community Foundation hires Founding Executive Director

SHARE ON: Businesses and entrepreneurs across the Algoma District will have access to new services and new grant-making programs. The Algoma Community Foundation board of directors has hired non-profit professional Robin Sutherland of Thessalon as their Founding Executive Director. Co-Chair Jessica Bolduc says Sutherland’s leadership abilities have been proven through her 12-year career that has seen her with local, regional, and national organizations in a variety of sectors. The Foundation is a new non-profit organization serving the urban, rural, remote, and First Nation communities of Algoma District and is currently working toward obtaining its charitable registration status. It is also a part of a national network of Community Foundations, registered public charities that contribute to local initiatives by bringing community stakeholders together around issues of local importance, grant-making, information gathering, and sharing.

Massachusetts community foundations get $5M in state COVID relief grants Updated Mar 12, 2021; The Baker administration Friday allocated an additional $5 million to charitable community foundations across the state to provide immediate relief from economic hardships for families and individuals due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the last year the state has allocated a total of $15 million through the Community Foundations Grant Program for COVID-19 Relief. Katie Allan Zobel, president and CEO of the Community Foundations of Western Massachusetts, said the $423,035 allocated to her organization Friday brings the agency’s total to more than $1.2 million since the first of the year. “This is the first time that community foundations have received money from the state like this,” Zobel said. “That speaks to the urgent nature of the need. We have the resources to get the money to people with the greatest need.”
