(File photo courtesy of Keith Hershmiller Photography) While there weren’t any fans to salute following the Regina Pats’ final game of the year, the team did so to recognize the end of one of the most unique seasons in WHL history. Due to COVID-19 measures, the Pats and all of the teams in Saskatchewan and Manitoba played an abbreviated season in a bubble in Regina without any fans in attendance at any of the games. While it was tough being away from family, staying in small dorm rooms and only leaving to go to the rink, the Pats are grateful to have had a chance to hit the ice this season.

The Prince Albert Raiders found out firsthand why the Winnipeg Ice have one of the best offences in the Western Hockey League during the shortened 2020-21 campaign. In the penultimate game for both sides in the East Division hub at the Brandt Centre, the Raiders saw a 3-1 third period lead with 11 minutes to go disappear as the Ice scored a trifecta of goals in a nearly six-minute stretch on their way to a 4-3 triumph.

The Swift Current Broncos lost 5-2 to the Winnipeg Ice on Monday. The Broncos were thoroughly outplayed in the opening period but took a 1-0 lead when defenseman Owen Williams scored on a partial breakaway with only 1.5 seconds remaining in the period. The Ice took control of the game in the second period with goals from Zachary Benson, Peyton Krebbs, and Michael Milne in just over eight minutes. Caleb Wyrostock fired home his fourth goal of the season to get the Broncos back within one goal as the Broncos trailed 3-2 after two periods. The Ice put the game away with third-period goals from James Form and Benson to close the scoring.

Miner improved to 6-2-0 with a 1.18 goals-against average and .952 save percentage to go along with four shutouts in 2020-21. Eric Florchuk opened the scoring while Adam Hall put home the winner at 11:30 of the third period to help the Giants (8-3-0) to a third straight victory. Riley Heidt found the back of the net for the Cougars (4-5-2), who got 27 saves from Taylor Gauthier.
