BATON ROUGE - A non-profit organization has paid off a mortgage for the family of a local police officer who was killed in the line of duty last year.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation held a small ceremony at officer Glenn Hutto Jr. s family home Thursday to make the gift official.
Hutto was gunned down in April while he and another officer were attempting to arrest a murder suspect in Baton Rouge. The gunman, Ronnie Kato, was later taken into custody after a standoff with police.
Baton Rouge Police Officer Lieutenant Glenn Hutto Jr., the officer who was shot and killed by a murder suspect in April of 2020, was acknowledged and honored by The Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation paid off the mortgage on the home of Lt. Hutto’s family. What a wonderful Christmas gift for this family, who is spending their first Christmas without him.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is based in New York and this is part of their 2020 Season of Hope project. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation honors the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller, who laid down his life to save other on 9/11. Siller unselfishly paid the ultimate sacrifice at the Twin Towers by saving as many people as he could. The Siller family formed the Tunnel to Towers Foundation to honor our military and first responders who continue to make the sacrifice of life and limb for our country.
