VIEW GALLERY: The Eternal Armenia light sculpture installation at Glendale s Central Park
GLENDALE As part of a continuation of Armenian Genocide Remembrance Month, an experiential light sculpture titled “Eternal Armenia
” by artists Margarita Simonian, Vreje Bakalian, and Yeva Babayan will be on display across the green lawn of Glendale’s Central Park from May 14 to 28. The park is located at 216 S. Brand Blvd. Glendale, CA 91203.
The 18ft light-weight, circular-aluminum truss structure will be programmed with LED lighting. The ancient Armenian symbol of Eternity will light up the park like a beacon in the night while attracting astonishment in the daytime. Red, solar lit garden lights, symbolic of red poppies in remembrance of the almost 5,000 perished soldiers from the recent Artsakh war and the bloodshed of 1.5 million in the 1915 genocide, will also be spread across the field for all to cherish.
Glendale Unified School Board of Education chair Shant Sahakian
The Glendale Unified Board of Education completed its annual rotation of officers on Tuesday and Shant Sahakian assumed his new role as Board President for the 2021-22 year. He takes over the position from outgoing Board President Dr. Armina Gharpetian.
Sahakian was elected in April 2017, becoming the youngest School Board Member elected in Glendale history. This is the first time he will serve as Board President.
In March, 2019, the Armenian American Museum Board of Trustees appointed Sahakian as Executive Director, responsible for leading the organization’s development and community relations as well as collaborating with the Museum’s principal architect, exhibition design consultant, and construction team.
My Relic: “Breaking Bread” by SheLovesCollective
GLENDALE As part of Armenian Genocide Remembrance Month, emergent international collective of established female artivists, SheLovesCollective, has created an interactive art installation called “My Relic.” This installation intends to activate our community to transform their relics of genocide into broadly construed creative objects and outlets for the collective mourning of trauma through transformation. “My Relic” will take place within 3 retail units on Artsakh Ave., located at 117 Artsakh Ave., 123 Artsakh Ave., and 127 Artsakh Ave., from April 11 to 25, and will feature 3 individual installations including:

Paula Devine selected Mayor of Glendale
Glendale City Council Member Paula Devine was selected as the City’s Mayor on Tuesday by fellow council members. Devine takes over the position from outgoing Mayor Vrej Agajanian. This is Devine’s second time serving in the position of Mayor.
Mayor Devine was first elected to the Glendale City Council in 2014. She also serves as the Chair of the Glendale Housing Authority and is the past Chair of Glendale’s Commission on the Status of Women.
