For its 2021-22 season, the Columbus Symphony will celebrate two momentous occasions: first, the 70th anniversary of the organization’s founding in 1951; and second, its emergence from the current, pandemic-altered season. Although a reduced version of the symphony has been giving a steady stream of limited-capacity concerts in the Ohio Theatre this season, symphony leaders acknowledge that audiences expect big and bold concerts in the season ahead. “We were going to do the very best we could in every circumstance, but we also have been saying for a good six months that we were not going to limp out of COVID that we were going to burst out of COVID,” Executive Director Denise Rehg said. “That is what the season is meant to do.” ....
The Columbus Symphony’s Picnic With the Pops concerts, one of central Ohio’s most popular annual outdoor entertainment events, is set to return this summer. After the pandemic led to the cancelation of last year’s edition, the symphony announced Friday that it will bring back the weekend concert series this summer at the John F. Wolfe Columbus Commons. The concerts, which will take place on Saturdays from June 12 through July 31, will feature the symphony accompanying leading pop acts and artists. (At least one concert will also feature a performance on a Friday.) The lineup of guest artists, as well as details on tickets and safety protocols, will be announced soon. ....

The concerts will be at the Columbus Bicentennial Pavilion in the John F. Wolfe Columbus Commons downtown. Tickets and performing artists have yet to be announced. Picnic with the Pops will be held June 12 - July 31. The symphony also announced Popcorn Pops, an outdoor concert series for kids, will happen on June 18 and July 16 ....
