COVID-19: Kerala likely to impose complete lockdown in districts with high positivity rate from May 4
Amid the rising COVID-19 cases in the state, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said a complete lockdown may be imposed in the districts with a high positivity rate from May 4.
The surge in the COVID cases shows that the situation in the state is going worse. In this context, the interventions have been strengthened at all levels. Apart from the restrictions announced earlier, a full lockdown may have to be imposed in some districts where the Test Positivity Rate is exceeding 50 per cent. We will be going for more stringent restrictions from May 4,” Vijayan said while addressing media personnel on Friday. ....

After 26,685 fresh Covid-19 cases were recorded in Kerala on Saturday, the state government on Sunday decided to continue the tough measures to contain the infections in the state.
Relaxations are provided only for essential services and public transport with restrictions being effected and the police have registered cases against 5,371 people for having violated the Covid protocols.
A total of 36 vehicles were seized and 984 people were arrested on Saturday. Cases were registered against 22,703 people for not wearing masks and against two for having violated quarantine.

The state government received an amount of Rs 62,91,900 as fines under various categories of Covid violations. Hotels and Restaurants are allowed only takeaways and private buses are not seen plying while state road transport corporation buses are in service. However, very few people are in the streets. ....

The 48-hour lockdown- like curbs imposed by the Kerala government following unprecedented COVID-19 surge, came into force in the state with only essential services and emergency activities being allowed and a holiday declared for government offices and PSUs.
Police carried out intense vehicle check across the state since early this morning to ensure that nobody ventured out on roads and public places unnecessarily. In all major thoroughfares, police personnel could be seen stopping both two-wheelers and cars and verifying the identity cards and mandatory self-declaration to know their purpose of the travel. ....

Only essential services will be allowed.
Kerala government is mulling near-total curtailment of civic life on weekends to slow down the transmission of the resurgent COVID-19 virus.
A top-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday reportedly weighed in, allowing only essential services to operate on April 24 and 25th.
It might even declare Saturday a government holiday.
The government is yet to call it a weekend lockdown. ....
