NORTH PROVIDENCE – New Councilor Steven Anthony Loporchio took the oath of office in an online ceremony administered by longtime family friend Judge Frank Caprio this month, kicking off his first term as the replacement for longtime Councilor Manny Giusti.
Caprio said he was honored to be part of the Jan. 12 ceremony, after having the privilege of his law office representing the Loporchio family for years. He noted how Loporchio comes from a great working-class family, and he expects him to build on the foundation his parents laid by serving with the utmost integrity, competence and giving approach.
He said Loporchio will not only work in the best interest of the town, including on finances, but will do so while always keeping the “homeless, poor, downtrodden, sick and hopeless” at the forefront of deliberations.

Marieville Neighborhood Partnership extends grant deadline
NORTH PROVIDENCE – The Marieville Neighborhood Partnership has announced that it has been authorized to officially extend the application deadline to Jan. 31 for a pandemic-related public assistance grant.
As previously reported, the nonprofit has received a grant of $37,500 from the Rhode Island Foundation to help those in need due to the pandemic. This is part of the Rhode Island Nonprofit Support Fund, established to support local efforts in addressing community needs during the COVID-19 crisis. The grant was made possible due to additional CARES Act funding that the Rhode Island Foundation was able to secure from the state to support more organizations through the grant program.
