GP speaks on the vaccine A BRADFORD doctor has said work to bust myths around the Covid-19 vaccine and boost uptake is starting to pay off. In a meeting held by Bradford Foundation Trust and the Race Equality Network earlier this week, a GP told how she has been holding one-to-one conversations with patients of all ages and backgrounds about their concerns. Dr Safina Haque of the Kensington Partnership has worked in the heart of the inner city for more than 20 years. She has played a key role in the roll-out s success, particularly in the most deprived areas where health inequalities exist.
BRADFORD Central Mosque will open its doors to become a community Covid-19 vaccination centre. It marks the beginning of a major initiative where Bradford Council for Mosques is teaming up with local GPs to accelerate and increase take-up of the vaccine as an essential preventative measure against the virus. The vaccination centre at the Central Mosque, Westgate, in the city centre, will be open from tomorrow between 8.30am and 1.30pm. It is hoped the initiative will help to increase confidence in the vaccine across the city, encouraging people to go for the jab in ever-increasing numbers. The vaccine hub is part of a series of measures launched by Bradford Council for Mosques to give positive information and reassurance about vaccines and encourage uptake among all priority at-risk groups. Wherever essential, it is looking at ways to provide transport for those most needing it.
ONE of Bradford’s most prominent buildings has been turned into a rapid Covid-19 testing site. St George’s Hall, in the heart of the city centre, is being used for the new testing programme, along with Airedale Shopping Centre in Keighley. Lateral Flow tests, which give results in 30 minutes, will be used in a bid to identify asymptomatic people who have Covid-19.
