Clinton Township to explore social work assistance in policing

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Clinton Township Police Department supports a study up for approval by the Township Board of Trustees, to determine if engaging social workers can help better serve the community by providing support for their officers in the field.
Trustee Laura Cardamone, a social worker who owns a private practice counseling center in Clinton Township, initiated a $25,000 study funded by a federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), dollars provided to the Township annually.
The study is designed to be a deep dive into how social workers can support responding police officers in situations that require or would benefit from additional personal or community support. A needs assessment will likely transition into the development of a working program.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP A Macomb Township car salesman is facing federal charges in a case dating back a few years.
An April 30 press release from the United States Attorney’s Office Eastern District of Michigan states that 34-year-old Apollon Nimo has been charged in a wire fraud scheme involving the trafficking of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Employee Purchase Control Numbers, or EPCNs.

MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ Four suspects are behind a spree of 84 home invasions/burglaries across the state in the past year, and some of the break-ins occurred in Middlesex and Monmouth counties, according to New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal.
The 84 total burglaries all took place between October 2020 and March 2021, in eight different New Jersey counties: Morris, Bergen, Essex, Somerset, Passaic, Monmouth, Middlesex and Union, as well as lower New York state.

A high-volume Fiat Chrysler Automobiles salesman in suburban Detroit has been charged with defrauding the automaker out of $8.7 million by giving employee discounts on vehicles to customers who weren t eligible.
Apollon Nimo, 34, a salesman at Parkway Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram, illegally used discount codes meant for family members of FCA employees in sales and leases to nonqualified buyers thousands of times from 2014 to the present, a federal investigator wrote in an affidavit filed Friday in U.S. District Court. Nimo closed more deals using employee discounts than any other FCA salesperson in Michigan, and at times was No. 1 nationwide, according to the affidavit.
Clinton Twp. Police Department launches ‘Operation Blue Angel’

The Clinton Township Police Department has launched Operation Blue Angel.
The free program is open to eligible township residents 55 years of age or older who live alone or will be alone for extended periods of time on a regular basis; or persons with a medical condition(s) that could lead to incapacitation and who live alone or are alone for extended periods of time on a regular basis; or live with another individual and meet any of the requirements.
The program includes a lock box, which will be owned and maintained by the police department and will be placed on the participant’s door by police personnel. The lock box will contain a key to the residence, which the resident must supply. The key will only be accessed by responding police officers in the event of an emergency where officers cannot gain access to the residence.
