FreightCar America got a $10 million PPP loan, then closed its plant and moved manufacturing jobs to Mexico

Late last summer, after churning along through the pandemic with only a two-week pause, managers at FreightCar America called hundreds of workers into the break area at the company’s factory near Muscle Shoals, Alabama, to tell them that the plant was closing for good.

For some employees, the news wasn’t a shock: They’d been hearing rumors that management would move the work elsewhere for years. The timing, however, seemed odd. Only a few months earlier, the publicly traded company had received a $10 million Paycheck Protection Program Loan — the maximum amount available under a pandemic relief program designed to keep workers employed. Some had believed the funds would keep the doors open for a little while longer. ....

Jacksonville restaurant mainstay River City Brewing Co. closing


River City Brewing Co., a dining landmark on Jacksonville s Southbank for more than 27 years, will close its doors for good on Sunday.
Located at 835 Museum Circle, near the Museum of Science and History, the restaurant plans to close following brunch service on Sunday, according to a message on its website.
That s when the restaurant s last bash begins. 
Beginning at 3:30 p.m., more than 7 hours of music and dancing kicks off in an event billed as River Relapse, according to River City s Facebook page. The event will feature music from as many as 15 DJs, spinning up disco, funk, techno and house music until 11 p.m. Admission and parking are free. Guests, however, must be at least 21 to enter. ....

AUSTIN, Texas KVUE wants to help “Keep Austin Local” by highlighting local businesses, events and people that make Austin special.
On Wednesday, KVUE stopped by Opal Divine’s, a South Austin restaurant and bar that’s been around for 21 years.
Opal Divine’s was started by owner Michael Parker and his wife, Susan. The restaurant is named after Susan’s grandmother, Opal Divine.
The restaurant was set to have a strong 2020 after Interstate 35 construction had been completed. February 2020 was their biggest February ever, and as they were preparing for St. Patrick’s Day, their biggest day of the year, everything shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ....

CHAMBLEE, Ga. - Chamblee police have released the incident report for the DUI arrest of Bryan Anthony Rhoden on July 3. Rhoden is the suspect charged in the deaths of three people found on the tenth hole of Pinetree Country Club’s golf course earlier that same day.
According to the report, Rhoden was driving a black 2017 Maserati ​Ghibli bearing a Georgia temporary tag heading northbound on Peachtree Road around 10:48 p.m. An officer driving in the other direction noticed the vehicle did not have its tail lights on and turned around, pulling the car over along Peachtree Blvd. near Johnson Ferry Road. ....
