100 Years Ago: 1921
Charles Marshall of Lewiston and Portland, Maine, is looked upon by many leaders In operatic circles as the successor to Enrico Caruso, the world’s foremost tenor, who died in Naples today. Since returning to this country from abroad, Marshall has appeared on the operatic stage and critics have said that his voice bids fair to equal that of the famous son of Italy. Mr. Marshall, who was a choir singer in Lewiston, where his parents reside, studied abroad and gained laurels wherever he sang.
50 Years Ago: 1971
State Senator Donald J. Bernard (D) of Auburn is the author of an article which appears with pictures in the August issue of the National Diver Magazine. The story and pictures are about a fishing dragger that sank off the tip of Bailey Island.
