Netaji Research Bureau chairperson Sugata Bose has shot off a letter to the Victoria Memorial authorities, claiming that one of the relics at an ongoing exhibition at the museum, commemorating the 125th birth anniversary of the legendary freedom fighter, is fake. In the letter to Victoria Memorial Curator Jayanta Sengupta, the leader s grandnephew said the museum authorities had never asked for a copy of Netaji s resignation letter from the Indian Civil Service and what has been put on display there is a fake exhibit. The Harvard University professor and son of Dr Sisir Bose said the authentic photocopy of Netaji s resignation letter from the ICS has been with the bureau for about 50 years.
Abid Hasan, aide to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and the man who coined the slogan “Jai Hind”, was posthumously honoured at an event here on Saturday that resonated with messages of unity and secularism.
Hasan, who was a major in the Indian National Army (INA) and served the country as a diplomat after Independence, was conferred with the Netaji Award 2021 by the Netaji Research Bureau at Netaji Bhavan.
Bureau chairperson Sugata Bose, Netaji’s great-nephew and a Harvard history professor, delivered a speech on “Netaji, Abid Hasan and the Unity of India” that was peppered with anecdotes and highlighted the emphasis Netaji and his comrades laid on inclusiveness and secularism.

The 125th anniversary celebrations of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in Kolkata proved to be not just an event to remember the freedom fighter but also a referendum on the mood in the state which is gearing up for assembly polls later this year.
An outpouring of support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the streets of Kolkata not only caught the TMC by surprise but also bewildered the local police.
As part of his itinerary, PM Modi visited Netaji Bhavan but keeping aside protocol, he bought a ticket worth Rs 10 to enter the premises. The prime minister was accompanied by former Trinamool Congress MP Sugata Bose, which many perceived as yet another dig at the Mamata Banerjee-led party.
