Santa Barbara mail thief arrested
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A 31-year-old man has been arrested in Santa Barbara for mail theft and other theft-related charges.
On December 29, 2020, a victim of mail theft filed an online report for several packages that had been taken from their community mailbox cluster in the area of Canyon View Road and Sycamore Vista Road in Montecito.
The same victim contacted the Sheriff’s Office in January 2021 to report more mail stolen, but this time they captured video surveillance of the suspect.
A Sheriff’s Deputy gathered the video evidence and began an investigation.
With the assistance of Santa Barbara Police Detectives, Custody Deputies and Sheriff’s Detectives, the suspect was identified as Juan Carlos Coronado-Mendoza.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. Santa Barbara County Sheriff s Office reports three additional staff members and two inmates with COVID-19 on Wednesday.
Of the three staff members, one was a Sheriff s Deputy and the other two were Custody Deputies.
The two inmates were found to be positive with COVID-19 during the intake screening process. One of the inmates came in Tuesday night and the other came in Wednesday night.
The Sheriff s Deputy last worked on December 16 and began experiencing symptoms on December 18. They were tested on December 19 and found to be positive with COVID-19 on Monday.
The first Custody Deputy last worked on December 17 and developed symptoms the next day. They were tested and found positive on Wednesday.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. Santa Barbara County Sheriff s Office reports five additional employees and three inmates have tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday evening.
County Sheriff s say the employees include a Sheriff s Deputy, three Custody Deputies and a non-sworn employee.
The Sheriff s Deputy was said to have worked last on Thursday before they began to experience symptoms on Monday. They were tested and found to be positive with COVID-19 on the same day.
All three Custody Deputies tested positive on Sunday. One of the deputies last worked on Thursday and the other two last worked on Sunday.
All three were tested as part of the ongoing Sheriff s office surveillance testing.
