A chicken in Dedza has hatched a four legged chick yesterday, according to Veterinary Expert Dr. Poya Njoka.
Dr. Njoka revealed that the development is a result of organ malfunction while it was inside the egg.
He said this occurs occasionally in some species and is called congenital abnormalities.
Dr. Njoka says the two extra legs could be removed surgically “but if the condition of the chick is critical it will die after few days.â
The owner of the hen, Marita Disimasi, is amused at what has happened. “Five eggs hatched. One with four legs. It’s walking in two though”.
