Comic Book Review - Lady Baltimore: The Witch Queens #2

Issue #2 of The Witch Queens series throws us plenty of story, action and character development from the word go. This latest issue in the Lady Baltimore series offers an insight into the world of Lord Baltimore and the part he played in this world at large. It further develops the setting of the occult-drenched build up to World War II, and what secret battles were being fought without the public’s attention. We pick up right where issue #1 left off with Lady Baltimore’s estate under attack by witches, and once again the issue does not treat newcomers lightly. Without some insight into the series as a whole readers will be left wondering what a lot of the terms and references are actually about. The same week that

Comic Book Review - Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins Vol 3 #2

Calum Petrie reviews Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins Vol. 3 #2… As we return to Exandria, the legends of Vox Machina grow more righteous (or notorious) by the day. The future heroes of Tal’dorei are still relatively early on in their story, and yet that does not mean that their journey is any less entertaining. In the last issue we saw our trepid adventurers blowing through cash and in desperate need of a pay day. When the proposition of easy money comes from a shady halfling gentleman, why would you not follow him? The last issue ended with Vox Machina stepping into the ring for their first round battle in the fight pit, and we pick up just as the clash begins. Considering that we are transferring the actions of a D&D game into a comic book, it is all the action with none of the dice rolling antics. The fight sequences are played off very nicely with lots of humour and nods to the character interactions from the show thrown into the fray.

Comic Book Review - Once & Future #18

The final issue in Once & Future’s third arc throws us right into the middle of the fray, where Merlin has been hatching a long running plan. Bridgette, Duncan and everyone else appear to be nothing more than pawns on the board at any given moment. The threat of a fanatical and otherworldly King Arthur rising to power is enough to make every player in the game push on and fight, whether they are for or against this assentation. The last issue rounded out with Duncan, Rose, Bridgette and the Shadow government operatives climbing aboard a dragon and giving chase to a grotesque Galahad. The chase commences and for once the party appear to have the upper hand… it all seems too good to be true.
