Getting help to victims of domestic violence and supports in place is more crucial now than it ever has been.
There can be nothing more frightening than being in a domestic abusive relationship and being afraid to leave or feeling that there is no one to help.
Unfortunately, there still seems to be a “sure it’s none of my business” attitude in the public domain. The key message all State and voluntary stakeholders are asking is to report your concerns as this may be the first chance to help a victim escape the situation, and that if you are a victim of domestic abuse to report it.

Sinn Féin TD Kathleen Funchion for Carlow Kilkenny has urged TDs from all parties in Carlow Kilkenny to support Sinn Féin’s legislation when it comes before the Dáil later today and ensure a historic injustice is finally ended.
The legislation will go before the Dáil at 10am this morning.
“Today is a very significant day as the Dáil will debate Sinn Féin’s legislation to ensure all adopted people over the age of 18 have a legal right to access their own birth certificate. I am calling on all TDs to do right by adopted people in Carlow and Kilkenny and back this Bill tomorrow.

A Laois Offaly TD has called on his constituency colleagues to back proposed laws that would give new rights to people who have been adopted who are trying to find out about their backgrounds.
Sinn Féin TD Brian Stanley has urged the four other TD to support Sinn Féin’s legislation to ensure they have a legal right to access their own birth certificate. The legislation will go before the Dáil on Wednesday.

Instead of bringing closure and comfort, the Mother and Baby Homes report has brought a renewed sense of abandonment to many survivors who have so bravely shone a light on this shameful chapter in our country’s history, says Carlow Kilkenny TD Kathleen Funchion.
There has been huge upset at the tone and language used in the report’s findings - destroying survivors’ own testimonies is the final insult.
For many women, it took all the will and courage in the world to share and articulate their experiences of being detained in these institutions and having their children taken away from them.
