Over the weekend, the state of New Mexico reported 856 new cases of COVID-19 and 27 additional deaths related to the disease.
This was with 571 new cases and 14 additional deaths on Saturday and 285 new cases and 13 additional deaths on Sunday.
As of Sunday, 292 individuals were hospitalized for the disease, 73 fewer than on Friday and the fewest since Oct. 26. This could include those from other states who are hospitalized in New Mexico, but would not include New Mexicans who are hospitalized in other states.
DOH has now found 180,571 cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic and reported 3,529 deaths related to the disease. Of the confirmed cases, 120,051 are designated as recovered by DOH.

SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials announced this afternoon 285 more positive tests for COVID-19.
Los Alamos County reports 2 new case today bringing the total to 466 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)
Today’s update includes 13 more deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19.
The New Mexico Department of Health reports today’s most recent cases:
64 new cases in Bernalillo County
3 new cases in Catron County
“This feels like the beginning of a fourth-quarter comeback.”
That’s what Human Services Department Secretary Dr. David Scrase said during a press conference on Wednesday, about New Mexico’s improving COVID-19 situation.
Scrase also said that he is hopeful that more counties will move from red to yellow restrictions next Wednesday, when the state releases the new calculations for which counties qualify for which level of restrictions.
The level of vaccinations per day was also encouraging to Scrase.
Dr. Tracie Collins, the secretary of the state Department of Health, said the state was administering 9,000 tests each day, which she said doubled its pace from six weeks ago.
