Loves Furniture will close 13 stores, including 10 in Michigan
Loves Furniture will close 13 of its locations, including 10 in Michigan, under a consolidation plan.
“We’ve got stores literally five miles apart,” company CEO Mack Peters said Tuesday. “With the global pandemic going on and the furniture shortage, we’re having a problem getting goods for our stores to stock all our stores and take care of our customers. We’re reducing our footprint of the number of stores to better serve our customers in the Detroit area.”
The consolidation comes about four months after the Warren-based retailer opened its first Michigan store in former Art Van locations. Art Van s private equity firm, Dallas-based U.S. Assets, acquired the assets of Art Van Furniture when it shuttered its doors in March after more than 60 years in business.

Shortly after Loves Furniture & Mattresses announced last week that it would be exiting Pennsylvania to focus on its core market in Michigan, Levin Furniture revealed it would lease back the three Loves locations around Pittsburgh, as well as locations in Altoona and State College.
All five outlets originally were Levin retail stores and the new deal restores the furniture chain’s original thumbprint in western Pennsylvania.
A distinguished centenarian is returning to Peters Township.
Levin Furniture & Mattress, a longtime staple along Washington Road, will be moving back into its former location. brothers, John and Matt Schultz, acquired the Levin stores out of bankruptcy.Â
Loves, which went into business only in March, hastily announced on Monday that it was leaving those five locations â all former Levin stores â to focus on its stores in Michigan, where the firm is based. Loves said in a news release that a local company would take over those stores, without identifying that firm.

âThis is an early Christmas gift for us, our employees and our customers,â said Robert Levin, chairman of the Westmoreland County-based furniture firm. âWeâre thrilled to be back in the community, at a location that is convenient to customers.â
