Oxygen Express slated to arrive soon from Bellary, Karnataka, with 40 tonnes of oxygen is eagerly awaited by medical professionals, authorities and citizens in the city, and a trial run for an anticipated smooth operation was conducted at the Khadki railway station on Tuesday.
The oxygen will be sent to hospitals in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and other parts of the district as per requirements from the station.
The trial run was to ensure the approach road to the station that will be used by tankers to ferry the cylinders operates smoothly. Other facilities like readying of rakes, undergears, lighting and security were also checked. ....

The ferocious second wave showed no signs of halting as India reported 3,79,257 new cases Thursday, but the good news was that the case fatality rate declined to 1.11%, and the cumulative number of vaccine doses administered in the country crossed 15 crore.
Cumulatively, 15,00,20,648 vaccine doses have been administered through 22,07,065 sessions, as per the provisional report till 7 am Thursday. These include 93,67,520 HCWs who have taken the 1st dose and 61,47,918 HCWs who have taken the 2nd dose, 1,23,19,903 FLWs (1st dose), 66,12,789 FLWs (2nd dose), 5,14,99,834 1st dose beneficiaries and 98,92,380 2nd dose beneficiaries more than 60 years old and 5,10,24,886 (1st dose) and 31,55,418 (2nd dose) beneficiarie ....

Direct passenger flights between India and Australia will be halted until May 15 amid the nation s worsening coronavirus crisis, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said.
Mr Morrsion said the move meant two passengers services from India into Sydney, and two repatriation flights into Darwin would be cancelled, and about 500 passengers would be affected. ....
