Dawn HARIPUR: The dry spell persisting for the last few months has caused scarcity of irrigation water across the district, as almost all local small dams are nearing the dead level, official sources and farmers told this correspondent on Friday. They said that the water shortage had exposed the orchards and standing crops spread over hundreds of acres to damage. They said that like other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the weather conditions in Haripur district had also witnessed changes reducing the rainfall to minimum during last few months. As a result, the water availability in the rain-fed small and large dams was badly affected, resulting in lesser supply of irrigation water to the farmers. ....
Water crisis looms large if not enough monsoon rains July 4, 2021 Islamabad: Because of not enough snowfall during the last winter in the catchment area of Simly Dam, the main source of drinking water supply to the federal capital, the water level in the water reservoir has already dropped to 2,248 feet above sea level, the sources in the Water Management Division of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) told ‘The News’. The optimum level of the Simly water reservoir is 2,315 feet above sea level and the dead level is 2,233 feet above sea level. The sources told ‘The News’ that the withdrawal from Simly dam has already been cut down to half from the normal withdrawal of 32 million gallons per day (MGD). ....
Pindiites facing water shortage due to power outages July 2, 2021 Rawalpindi : Electricity loadshedding coupled with hot weather has affected the water supply system of the city and although there is enough water in the Rawal and Khanpur dams to meet the city’s requirements for the next three months but excessive loadshedding is making it hard for the citizens to get their water tanks filled on time, Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Managing Director Raja Shaukat Mehmood said in an emergency meeting held here on Thursday. He said that the areas where water was supplied through tubewells including Sadiqabad, Muslim Town, Pirwadhai, Dhoke Hassu, Dhoke Mangtal, Khayabanp-e-Sir Syed, Banni, Pindora, Asghar Mall, Dhoke Kala Khan and several others were the most affected. “We are getting enough water supply from Khanpur and Rawal dams but we are unable to supply it to the public due to prolonged loadshedding,” he said.
