Ohioans warned to beware of scams seeking private information

COLUMBUS – Along with the launch of the Ohio Vax-a-Million campaign, which has been entered by millions of Ohioans, the Ohio Department of Health and the Ohio Lottery are offering tips for Ohioans to ensure they are entering the verified Ohio Vax-a-Million drawings.
There are only two ways to enter Ohio Vax-a-Million: online at ohiovaxamillion.com and by phone at 1-833-4-ASK-ODH (1-833-427-5634). Do not follow suspicious URLs or call other phone numbers to enter.
Do not provide social security numbers or other private information. The ohiovaxamillion.com registration asks for basic contact information (name, email address, phone number), date of birth, and where you received your vaccination. It does not ask for your social security number, credit card information, or banking information.

On Tuesday the dash to sign up for the Vax-a-Million lottery was officially underway.
People who have had at least one shot can enter to win a million dollars and for those 12 to 17 there are five chances to win a full ride to an in-state college, including room, board, and books.

President Joe Biden announced Monday that he s boosting the amount of COVID-19 vaccines that will be sent overseas from the U.S. by 20 million doses.
On the day it went live, Ohio’s Vax-a-Million website had nearly 25 million page views and hundreds of thousands entered their name to potentially win the lottery.
On May 12, about 12,913 people got vaccinated in one day. That number nearly doubled to 25,406 on May 14, just two days after the lottery was announced, according to the state’s COVID-19 vaccination dashboard.
