LANCASTER, N.Y. (WKBW) â The Lancaster Police Department is issuing a warning about a scam that is aimed at getting elderly parents or grandparents to take out cash in order to bail their kids or grandchildren out of jail, threatening them by sending a courier to their home.
According to Lancaster police, woman reportedly received a call from her son, saying that she needed to help bail him out of jail.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) â A patron of Mineo s South Pizzeria learned the hard way that you should never leave your car unlocked and running while you run inside to pick up your food.
Surveillance video shows a thief driving away in a white sedan that was parked outside the South Park Avenue business around 6:50 Sunday night.
The video shows another car slowing down while passing the pizzeria before briefly stopping next to the vehicle. The driver then pulls over. A passenger gets out of the car, then walks back toward the vehicle while looking at the white sedan and inside the restaurant.

WASHINGTON (WKBW) â According to Rep. Brian Higgins (N.Y.-26) the United States House of Representatives has passed two bills aimed at protecting older Americans from consumer scams.
According to public data from the Federal Trade Commission, the agency received 260,000 reports of fraud between January of 2020 and April 2021 totaling over $406.3 million in losses, with people over the age of 60 more likely to lose more money and were less likely to report it.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) â Neighbors in Buffalo say a break in the weather means illegal ATVs and dirt bikes are once again taking over some streets in Buffalo.
âI was up on Hertel a couple days ago and I couldnât even hear the person I was talking to because they were so loud and speeding,â said Lynn who lives near Hertel.
Eyewitnesses say Wednesday night around 7:00 pm, a pack of at least 30 ATVs and bikes were on Hertel Avenue. The eyewitness says the vehicles were doing wheelies, running red lights, some did not have headlights in the dark.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) â Sunday March 14 marks the beginning of daylight saving time, and firefighters say that s the perfect time to check your smoke detectors.
The Firemen s Association of the State of New York says you should change your batteries twice a year, so the time switch is a great opportunity to do it, since you won t have to change your clocks for another six months.
