Tech giant Google is expanding its programmes and partnerships in the Asia Pacific that are aimed to help publishers take advantage of digital technology. As publishers reassess their business models, Google has rolled out various programmes like Google News Initiative (GNI), digital growth training, the launch of Subscription Labs, and investment in fact-checking to combat the menace of fake news.

Google Launches $3 Million Fund To Fight COVID-19 Vaccine MisinformationÂ

The Google News Initiative (GNI) on Tuesday announced a global open fund worth up to $3 million to fight the spread of misinformation around COVID-19 vaccines.Â
Called the COVID-19 Vaccine Counter-Misinformation Open Fund, this initiative is intended to support journalistic efforts to effectively fact-check misinformation about the COVID-19 immunization process that specifically seek to support audiences that are underserved by fact-checking or targeted by misinformation.Â
âThe uncertainty and developing nature of the coronavirus pandemic continues to generate related misinformation. The global rollout of COVID-19 vaccines is exacerbating a perennial problem of misinformation about immunization,â Alexios Mantzarlis, News and Information Credibility Lead at Google News Lab wrote in a blog post.
Google has launched a new fund that will provide up to $3 million for journalistic projects across the globe that aim to broaden the audience of fact-checked information about COVID-19 vaccines.
