The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it has arrested no fewer than 100 suspected drug traffickers with a seizure of 238,168 kilogrammes of illicit drugs. Buba Wakawa, the state commander of the agency, said this in Benin City on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). Mr Wakawa said the arrests were made in the first quarter of the year, adding that the figure comprised 68 males and 32 females. Giving the breakdown of the seized drugs, he said 295. 08134 kilogrammes of drugs were seized in January.

NSCDC officer killed, foiled kidnap attempt of Uniben bursar

BENIN CITY – A Chief Corp Assistant in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), ACP Alex Ugiagbe has been killed in a gun battle with kidnappers who attempted to abduct the bursar of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) at his private residence in Benin City. The incident occurred at Ogheghe community, Off Sapele road in the state capital, yesterday morning. It was learnt that though the gallant officer later died of bullet wounds, his sporadic firing prevented the kidnappers from succeeding as they swiftly retreated with varying degrees of injuries. A dependable source hinted our crime reported that the gunmen met stiff resistance provided in synergy with other NSCDC personnel and civilian security men in the bursar’s residence.
