New Mexico State Police Investigate Shooting Involving Eddy County Sheriff’s Office Captain And Lieutenant NMSP News: CARLSBAD The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was requested by the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) Wednesday to investigate a police shooting involving an ECSO captain and lieutenant. The incident occurred at 6023 Laguna Road in Carlsbad. State Police agents learned that at around 4:30 p.m. Jan. 27, the Pecos Valley Drug Task Force was searching for EJ G. Kincaid, 29, of Carlsbad who was wanted for a parole violation and absconding. A Carlsbad police officer, in a marked patrol unit, attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Kincaid who was driving a tan Dodge pickup truck at Mermod and Walnut. ....

CARLSBAD, New Mexico The New Mexico State Police said a local law enforcement officer was wounded Wednesday night south of Carlsbad in a confrontation with a suspect that triggered gunfire. While NMSP officials didn t indicate the events surrounding the gunfire, they said the suspect was taken into custody unharmed. According to NMSP, an Eddy County Sheriff s deputy suffered non-life-threatening injures that were unrelated to the gunfire. The officer-involved shooting occurred near the Old Cavern Highway and W. Derrick Road and NMSP said it was investigating to determine exactly what happened. ....
NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The name of a Bismarck man who lost his life in 2020 rollover crash in Eddy County has been released. The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports that the vehicle, driven by 48 year-old Daniel Steidl, was traveling northbound on County Road 14 when it went into both the east and west ditch. The vehicle vaulted over an approach, landed and began to roll. At some point, the vehicle caught on fire, coming to rest in the ditch. Fire later engulfed the vehicle. The drive has since been identified as Steidl of Bismarck. The NDHP was assisted by the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office and New Rockford Fire Department. ....

National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day was created in 2015 as a way for people to express their gratitude for officers in the United States. There are nearly a million police officers in our country, and they deserve our thanks for putting themselves at risk for us every day. Locally, of course, we are extremely proud of the Carlsbad Police Department. Thanks to the Eddy County Sheriff’s Department, the District Attorney’s Office, New Mexico State Police, and many other organizations who work together every single day to keep us safe. We also are thankful for the organizations such as COPS who find ways to support our police officers throughout the year. ....

A local family is pushing the National Park Service for accountability, after a ranger fatally shot their son during a March traffic stop. Montrose native Charles âGageâ Lorentz was 25. He was headed home from Texas on March 21, and was to stop at Carlsbad Caverns National Park to meet a friend. There, he was pulled over by a park ranger. Video footage obtained by KOBTV in New Mexico shows part of the encounter between Lorentz and the ranger, identified as Robert Mitchell. The encounter ends with Lorentz being shot twice, once in the chest. ....
