Before pulling your money out, though, I would advise investors double-check what’s in the fund. During this period, we’ve managed to outperform many of our peers thanks to a substantial rotation into metals and minerals that will increasingly be needed in advanced technology, including lithium-ion batteries. Besides lithium, we like copper, nickel, cobalt and graphite, and we see great upside potential in companies that not only produce these minerals but also develop the technology behind the batteries.

As many of you know, I grew up in Toronto, where winters can be brutally cold. Like most people who live in northern U.S. states, I’m accustomed to driving on snowy, icy roads.
But then, roads in the north are plowed, sanded and salted when there’s snowfall. With rare exception, the roads here in sunny San Antonio, Texas, do not see that kind of maintenance. There are no snow plows or salt trucks. Driving, then, can be several times more precarious when we get the kind of extreme weather that hit us last week.

Why Airports Are The Ultimate Moat Investment
When evaluating stocks, we try to look for companies protected by a moat. In this context, a “moat is an advantage that some businesses enjoy, whereby the barriers to entry make it exceptionally difficult for competitors to come in, take away market share and undercut prices.
Airports are one such business model that can be characterized this way.
Think about it: With few exceptions, most cities and metropolitan areas around the world can support only one airport. When you fly commercially, you generally do not have a choice as to which hub you arrive at. Take our hometown of San Antonio, Texas, as an example. Despite it being home to more than 1.5 million people, the city has only one international airport.
